A street vendor who was arrested in Havana Vieja for protesting with a sign against the regime was released without charges twelve hours after the arrest.
This is the trade unionist and independent journalist Héctor Julio Cedeño Negrín, 71, who makes a living selling jams in the corner in which the road of Monte and Suárez street, in the capital.
«I buy for packets, for example, sucks, ground peanuts and then I sell them to retail and look for some kilos, but they (the authorities) have a tremendous repression system against street vendors, as they are called,» said Cedeño Negrín to Martí News.
«They came where I was with an old cart, and they told me that I could not sell,» added the opponent, referring to state inspectors who in coordination with police officers supervise the activity on their own and pursue the so -called illegalities.
“I told them that I was going to continue selling because they don’t pay me a retirement, they don’t pay me anything and I have to fight for my life. I have no license. There they sell the same people without a license as licensed, but they (the authorities) chase everyone equally. They don’t want them to sell on Monte Street, ”he said.
