The FBI said Friday that he launched an operation to investigate a band of thieves that has stolen the homes of professional athletes in the United States.
According to an FBI statement, the robberies have been orchestrated by members of South American robberies (Satg for its acronym).
«The investigations began after a series of robberies in homes in which the suspects of the Satg supposedly monitored the schedules of the professional athletes to identify when their properties would be unoccupied,» said the FBI.
«The FBI believes that athletes may have been the goal due to their publicly available schedules, which makes their properties more vulnerable.»
The agency said it has arrested two men accused of directing an operation on the east coast to resell stolen assets, and that a Grand Federal Jury in Cincinnati accused three people who believe they operated as part of the group.
The three defendants, who are charged with the interstate transport of stolen goods and the falsification of records in a federal investigation, allegedly committed a robbery at the home of an NFL player last year, the FBI reported.
The announcement of the operation is known two days before the NFL Super Bowl, in which the current champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, will face the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans.
