The first agreements between Caracas and Washington were completed on Monday. At 9 at night they landed at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía two airplanes of the Venezuelan state convasa, from the United States with 190 deported.
It is the first time since 2019 that a Venezuelan plane site American soil, that year both countries broke relations. In addition, Conviasa is sanctioned by the Department of the Treasury, a situation that prevents him from flying towards destinations such as Bogotá.
But the visit of Donald Trump’s special envoy, Richard Grenelll, generated this agreement in exchange for six Americans who were imprisoned in Caracas.
The arrival of migrants
Conviasa’s airplanes were hit with the logo of the «Vuelta a la Patria» Plan, a plan that created the government of Nicolás Maduro in 2018 to bring back, for free, to Venezuelan migrants who would like to return.
For Chavismo, bringing its two planes to El Paso, in Texa, is a triumph against the United States government, due to the sanctions that weigh on Maduro and high hierarchs.
The Interior and Justice Minister, Diosdado Cabello, in the midst of a strong police deployment, with heavily armed men, said that not all of them deported had a criminal record. He also said that many families remained in the US
«They are welcome here, we receive them and go to their communities,» said Cabello, while talking with Nicolás Maduro, who was on his television program with Maduro +.
The 190 deported were men, at ages between 20 and 30 years. They did not lower handcuffs of the two airplanes, although through the windows of the plane some handcuffs were seen before descending. Almost all of them gestures to thank God and others celebrated with their arms in the air to be on Venezuelan soil.
Although the authorities did not give more details, it is known that most of those deported were arrested in the US, some for more than a year.
The procedure for the attention of these migrants will consist of a police check to determine who are requested by Justice in Venezuela and then send them to their homes. There will also be a health check.
From the 190 group, two were assisted with wheelchairs.
«No more America,» some of the newly arrived Venezuelans shouted. Although it was not allowed to approach migrants, in some tattoos considered «characteristic» of the Aragua Train were visualized, although it was not confirmed that of those deported belonged to the criminal gang.
«It will depend on them (USA) more flights,» Cabello said when consulted by this newspaper on the next repatriation flights.
Venezuela Red Cross will provide assistance
The Red Cross of Venezuela reported on Monday that it will provide «humanitarian assistance» to deported migrants from the United States, after the arrival of two flights to Simón Bolívar International Airport, which serves Caracas, from the North American country with 190 Venezuelans.
«Humanitarian care began on Monday with the arrival in Venezuela of the first two migrants, to whom the Red Cross, through its volunteers and in coordination with the national government authorities, could provide its primary care and support services Psychosocial, ”said the organization in a press release.
He pointed out that a team formed by 40 multidisciplinary volunteers, doctors and lifeguards, accompanied the arrival of this group of migrants and gave them «personal hygiene kits and refreshments, as well as medications in the cases that were necessary.»
