We celebrate the 55th birthday of Laura de la UZ

This February 14, the outstanding Cuban actress Laura de la UZ celebrated her 55th birthday, a date that coincides with Valentine’s Day.

Its anniversary became a double celebration for Cubans, who have admired it for decades for their talent and charisma on the big screen, theater and television.

Although at first he was not accepted at the Higher Institute of Art, he never stopped fighting for his dream: «No, what happens is that before reaching the art instructors’ school, I had done the tests for the Higher Institute of Art and they didn’t approve me. I stayed quite in the air and I had to rethink my life. I decided to look for a good amateur theater group where I could continue to act, which was ultimately all I wanted to do ».

That determination led her to know great teachers who helped her develop her talent. With effort and dedication, she achieved her great opportunity in Cuban cinema when she was selected to star in Hello Hemingway, a role that catapulted her to fame.

«I found out for Jorgito Ferrera, the theater director. We were in Coppelia and he told me: Fernando is doing a casting for young people. Why don’t you go, Laurita? The next day I went and introduced myself alone. Fernando had never seen me ».
