Marco Rubio arrives in Saudi Arabia for dialogue with Russia about the end of the war in Ukraine

The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, arrived on Saudi Arabia on Monday where conversations are planned with senior Russian officials to try to end the war in Ukraine.

Last week President Donald Trump spoke on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin and ordered high positions to begin negotiations on war.

Rubio heads to the delegation, which includes Trump’s national security advisor, Mike Waltz, and the envoy of the White House for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, told Reuters an American legislator and a source.

At the moment it is unknown if any Ukrainian will participate in the conversations. A Ukrainian delegation is in Saudi Arabia to pave the way for a possible visit by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, an official told The Associated Press agency.

Trump told journalists on Sunday that Zelenskyy «will be involved», but did not come into details about his role in conversations.

Zelenskyy has affirmed that he would not accept any negotiation that does not include his country. European governments have also demanded that they be taken into account.
