The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said Tuesday that migrants considered «low risk» that are held at the Naval Base of Guantanamo (Cuba) will be deported to their countries.
As part of the new immigration policies established by the ruler, the US has decided to send migrants to military facilities on the island. According to filtrations to the CBS, there are currently about 150 detainees there, all of them Venezuelan men.
Speaking to reporters from Mar-A-Lago (Florida), Trump said that «any of them that is low risk will be returned to their countries.»
«All countries are accepting deportees,» said the Republican leader, whose government sent two deportation flights to Caracas last week, a frozen practice for years, which was briefly restored during an approach between the two countries under the mandate of Democrat Joe Biden (2021-2025).
The Government has not given information about the people arrested in Guantanamo, to which executive officials have described as «high -risk» criminals linked to the transnational organization of Venezuelan origin of Aragua.
However, according to leaks to the CBS chain, the US government has sent the military base to migrants who have no criminal record or that have only been convicted of minor crimes.
The New York Times published last week a list of 53 of the migrants held on the list.
The relatives of four of them have rejected Efe these accusations, also denouncing that they have not been able to communicate with their loved ones.
On Wednesday of last week, a group of organizations in defense of human rights filed a lawsuit against the Trump government, asking for access to the detainees at the Naval Base.
Organizations confirmed that these immigrants are incommunicado and urged the Government to guarantee access to information on detention conditions and due process for those affected.
