Bishops in Cuba pray for the health of the Pope and the «needs and hopes» of the people

The bishops of Cuba prayed this Thursday in the National Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre, in Santiago de Cuba, for the health of Pope Francis and «the multiple needs» of the people.

The Vatican reported this week that Pope Francis has developed bilateral pneumonia and that new tests showed an additional complication in the condition of the 88 -year -old pontiff. The Holy Father «continues to present a complex clinical picture,» said the Vatican.

This Thursday’s Mass at Cobre was chaired by Monsignor Antoine Camilleri, Apostolic Nuncio of the Vatican in Cuba. Arturo González Amador, head of the Diocese of Santa Clara and president of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Cuba (COCC), reported that its members celebrated the Eucharist at the foot of the Virgin of Charity and that they addressed «many issues of the tight Agenda «.

In the midst of one of the worst crises in decades that Cuba has gone through, the Catholic Church has developed an accompaniment and support work for vulnerable families.

In the Declaration of the Bishops of Cuba, the religious said that during the ecuentro «they dedicated time to reflecting on the economic challenges faced by pastoral agents, in order to fulfill the evangelizing and charitable mission that the Church in Cuba carries out, before The growing difficulties experienced by the people. «

In the end, the bishops prayed «for the needs, concerns and hopes of the Cuban people, with the same prayer that, since last April 15, it is prayed in all the masses that are held in our country,» adds the note.

Among the agreements that were taken in the meeting is the creation of «a new National Commission for the Culture of Care, which will have as its main objective the promotion of safe fields for all people in the Catholic Church.»
