Four babies die from hypothermia in the Gaza Strip because of the intense cold

At least four babies have died due to hypothermia in the last hours in the Gaza Strip hit by a polar cold wave for several days, according to the Wafa news agency, which cites sanitary sources.

The director of the patient’s friends hospital, Saeed Salah, told the Sanad news agency that three of them had less than two months and that they died in Gaza City «due to the intense cold and the lack of refuge,» a few hours later of your income.

«They arrived with a very low temperature, as if they were ice blocks and suffered a fall in blood circulation. Which affects the entire respiratory process as well as the functioning of kidneys, liver and brain, ”said Salah.

The fourth baby, of just over a month, died inside his tent, in the humanitarian area of ​​Mawasi, in the south of the strip.

Improvised camps

For his part, the head of the Pediatrics Department of Nasser Hospital, Ahmed al Farra, warned that the number of deaths among newborns will continue to grow, since they cannot bear the fall in temperatures without “heating, blankets and clothing ».

In addition, Wafa reported that at least three other babies are in critical condition for the intense cold.

Despite the high fire in the enclave, the majority of the Gazatí population continues to live in tents or in improvised shelters surrounded by rubble, without heating or sufficient resources to be able to deal with these low temperatures.

Since the beginning of January, at least more than a dozen babies have died in the hypothermia strip, according to figures from the Palestinian authorities.

Much of these deaths have occurred in the humanitarian area of ​​Mawasi, in the south of the strip, crowded with displaced people who also live in tents after they have run out of their homes by the Israeli bombings.
