Carlos Giménez thanks Trump for revoking oil concessions to Venezuela

Accompanied by several Venezuelan and Colombian leaders, Cuban -American congressman Carlos Giménez expressed his gratitude for the recent decision of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, of revoke oil concessions to Venezuela.

Giménez offered a press conference this Thursday at the Miami International Airport where he described the recent action taken by Trump, as a crucial step to end what he considers an illegitimate regime in Venezuela.

The congressman stressed that the measure helps to stop the resources that the regime of Nicolás Maduro receives, which has allowed the Venezuelan government to «help finance other repressive regimes such as those of Cuba and Nicaragua.»

For Giménez the fight against the regimes of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua «is not something political, but personal.»

«Not only for me, but also for congressmen Mario Díaz-Balart and María Elvira Salazar, Senator Rick Scott, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump,» he said during his speech.

About Cuba, Giménez said that this measure was just a step to «ensure that in the end Cuba is free.» He insisted that the Cuban government, which it considers equally illegitimate, must also be stripped of resources. «We should not give any kind of oxygen to these people, we have to put more pressure.»

Finally, the congressman referred to the revocation of the temporal protection status (TPS), a situation that affects many members of the Venezuelan community in the US.

Giménez said that together with other political leaders such as Salazar, Díaz-Balart, and Scott, they have expressed their desire that there will be an adjustment in the policy of President Trump, so that those Venezuelans who have contributed positively to American society can stay in the country. «Many are good members of our community and deserve to stay here,» he concluded.
