The Public Ministry (MP) reviewed 110 measures of people detained in the electoral context of July 28, so the total release reaches 2,006 so far.
In a statement on Instagram, the Prosecutor’s Office said they continued with the «constant investigations verifications» linked to «violent actions» after July 28. As a result, a «new group of people was determined to receive procedural benefits.»
In that sense, the MP stressed that on February 28, 110 reviews of measures were requested that, added to the previous ones, the total figure of 2,006 releases is reached.
According to the portfolio, this occurred in «the framework of respect and unrestricted observance to the principles and guarantees enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic.»
«The Public Prosecutor’s Office remains attentive in its condition of good faith, to continue working for defense, peace, justice and human rights,» the text concluded.
The announcement is given the same day that the UN High Commissioner, Volker Türk, advocated the release of all the «arbitrarily» detained people in Venezuela.
«In Venezuela, I took note of the announcement that more than a thousand people were released after they stopped them after the presidential elections,» said the high commissioner. «All arbitrarily detained persons must be released immediately,» he added in his report.
In the line that dedicated to Venezuela, he said that «political negotiations» are needed between different stakeholders to «agree on a viable path to follow»
