Marco Rubio sends condolences to the Díaz-Balart family

The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, sent a sense of condolences to the family of Lincoln Díaz-Balart, who He died Monday in Miami at 70 years.

«Today, the Cuban American community of our nation has lost a pioneer and tireless fighter for freedom. Lincoln Díaz-Balart are a tribute to American dream and the unwavering defense of human rights and democracy in our region,» Rubio wrote in a release.

The Secretary of State pointed out «the vision and leadership» that characterized the Cuban American politician throughout his life. «Eighteen years in the House of Representatives and more than 20 years in public service, they are a testimony of their deep love for the United States and the cause of freedom and democracy,» he said.

Lincoln Díaz-Balart, a key figure in the Republican Party, was the first Hispanic to be appointed member of the Chamber Rules Committee.

After his retirement as a congressman in 2011 the politician, who advocated the maintenance of sanctions against the Cuba regime and for freedom and democracy on the island, promoted the Institute La Rosa Blanca, founded by his father in 1959 to fight for the freedom of Cuba.

In 2024 he was awarded the “Award for a Life of Leadership” granted by the Hispanic Leadership Institute of the US Congress (CHLI).

After the news of his death, his brother Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart, highlighted «his love for the United States, and his tireless commitment to the cause of a free Cuba.»
