A teenager brutally murdered his mother after seeing a documentary from the Menéndez brothers

A 15 -year -old teenager, identified as Reed Gelinskey, has been accused of first -degree intentional homicide after killing his mother at his home in Caledonia, Wisconsin, on March 4. According to judicial documents, the young man declared that he planned the crime after seeing a Netflix documentary about the Menéndez brothers, convicted of murdering his parents in 1989. The young woman reported that she had received several Snapchat messages from the accused, including a photo of a woman lying on the ground with signs of violence. Upon arriving at the house located in East White Manor Court, the agents found the teenager dating the main door, dropping a knife on the floor and telling them: «Matar me.» Then she confessed: «She is dead for what I did.»

Inside the house, the agents found the body of the young man’s mother with multiple white wounds and signs of trauma due to blows. The victim was identified by a family friend as Suzanne Gelinskey, although her name has not been officially revealed by the authorities, according to Wisn.

A brutal murder inspired by a documentary

According to USA Today, during the interrogations, Gelinskey explained that he developed the plan to kill his parents while watching Netflix’s documentary about Lyle and Erik Menéndez. According to the reports, the idea arose in their mind when seeing the scene where the brothers shoot at their parents with a shotgun in their Beverly Hills mansion in 1989.

The teenager said that, after arriving from school that afternoon, he felt depressed and had the impulse to kill his parents. At that time, he began looking for a hammer to use it in his father when he arrived from work, but abandoned the idea by not finding one large enough. Later, after dinner, he hid a kitchen knife and a dumbbell inside his sweatshirt, waiting for the right time to attack his mother.

When her mother went up to her room, Gelinskey followed her and asked her for help to find her medication. At that moment, he took the opportunity to hit her twice in the head with the dumbbell and, when she fell to the ground, she stabbed her five times in the chest and neck. The night of the crime, he said he ingested nine pills before attacking his mother. However, according to USA Today, the authorities have not confirmed whether the medication had any effect on their violent behavior.

On March 6, Gelinskey appeared before the Court of Racine County by videoconference from the Youth Detention Center. Prosecutor Patricia Hanson described the crime as «extremely violent and planned», noting that the initial intention of the accused was to kill both parents.

Despite his age and the lack of criminal records, the court determined that he will be prosecuted as an adult. His bond was set at 1 million dollars, and his next hearing is scheduled for March 12.
