Bread also lacks in Cuba

The lack of flour, the inefficiency of the state company and the prolonged electric cuts that currently suffer most of the Cuban provinces, cause serious effects in the elaboration of regulated bread, compromising the delivery of the basic food to the most vulnerable, they assured Martí News Residents from the island.

Last week, the official Cubadebate portal reported that a ship with about 24 thousand tons of wheat had reached the port of Havana. The cargo would guarantee the production of the bread of the basic family basket, at least until the end of March.

Zaily Pérez, commercial director of the Cuban company of Molinería, explained that with the arrival of this cargo the three processing plants of the capital would be reactivated, and that the flour would be distributed to all the provinces, however, he clarified that the logistics process would be complex to cover from Havana to the east of the country, which could temporarily delay delivery.

The independent journalist Guillermo del Sol, in the city of Santa Clara, said that there is only regulated bread for children up to 7 years.

«Here, in Villa Clara, several months ago there is no bread, that is for children … the last bread we buy, the flour was contaminated with cockroaches, it was abundable. The state has nothing, because it has no money,» recalled the communicator.

The effects due to lack of flour in Havana already reach the MSMEs, warned the independent communicator Vladimir Turró.

«Private bakeries have stopped making bread, problems are further aggravated, in Arroyo Naranjo and I think throughout the island,» said the journalist.

Meanwhile, Dámaso Alberto Fernández described the stage with the shortage of bread in the town of San Andrés, in Holguín.

«The PAN in San Andrés does not know when you can eat, it is two days, three days without bread, one day with bread … an abundant bread, knows even cockroaches,» said the activist.

In the city of Pinar del Río, Miguel Antonio Miranda commented that the lack of bread affects the feeding of school -age children. «Now they have taken the bread every three days, a bread that is small.» This situation generates more discontent among the population, said the peasant.

From the municipality of Sibanicú, in the province of Camagüey, Jiordan Marrero Huerta said that the extensive blackouts directly affect the distribution of bread, «which is something daily.»

«Most children are going to school without a piece of bread, bakeries in Sancti Spíritus, which they transmitted to the population is that the flour did not exist to make the PAN. The majority of the population cannot buy a bread in these MSMEs, which is approximately, between 130 and 160 pesos. It really is a crime that the population is suffering Castañeda.

In Mayarí, in the province of Holguín, the lack of bread aggravates an already chaotic situation with food, said Teresa Miranda Céspedes.

«There is no way to find food. How are you going to reach the salary to people when a 10 pancitos pachatic costs 400 pesos to a poor old man, who would buy him from his checkbook. He cannot, because neither the bread that bad, of the weight, comes. Nor does that come,» warned the activist, a member of the Martian current.
