A child dies in floods in Havana

A child died on the afternoon of this Monday after falling through a sewer in an area flooded with the heavy rains that affect the west of Cuba, authorities reported.

The tragic event occurred at the intersection of Vía Blanca and Villanueva, Havana Vieja municipality.

The official press later said they have not yet managed to recover the child’s body that was sucked by a trainer during floods. So far they have not identified the child.

The meteorologist Alfredo Finalé explained to Martí News that strong rains are expected this Monday and during the week due to «the presence of a frontal system on the Gulf of America.»

«It is going to be moving with its low pressures to the north of the island of Cuba during the next few days, so the rains will be practically throughout the week touring from the West to the East,» said the expert.
