Who dared in 1978 in that Spain to write a humorous book about the most recent history of that country, and especially about Generalissimo Francisco Franco? Few would add that almost anyone. Fernando Vizcaíno Casas (1926, 2003) wrote it. In fact, he was the only one who dared. Today we would not find, perhaps less today, to a writer who lent his courage and rebellion to such a topic.
Fernando Vizcaíno Casas was born in Valencia, became the first Labor Lawyer in Spain. Fruitful writer and broad popular reception, since in 1971 his first best-seller Titled counting the 40, it would be one of the best -selling authors in Spain.
The books ‘girls … to the living room!’ and ‘of «Vieja shirt» to a new jacket’, which exceeded between both the million copies. Other books equally held by the public were ‘Post -war Spain’ (Espejo de España Collection), ‘Café and Cup with the celebrities’, ‘My audiences with Franco and other interviews’, ‘The wedding of Mr. Cura’ (Albia Nova Collection).
“Son of an umbrella and fans manufacturer, in 1948 he began in journalism in Actionorgan of Spanish University Union (Seu), like Film critic. He collaborated with National Radio of Spain and the newspapers The provinces and Day. In 1950 he moved from Valencia To Madrid to study Right.1Considered al journalism as his true vocation, and over time he would become a columnist in media of editorial lines as different as the newspaper The Alcazar and the magazine Interview. As Labor lawyer He specialized in the legal aspects concerning the theaterthe cinematography and the rights of the actors. Public Summa of show legislation (1962) and The new Spanish cinematographic legislation (1964). In addition, he published a complete Spanish Film Dictionary (1896-1966) (1968) ”. This is found on Wikipedia, that encyclopedia to which I have disagreed in what concerns my person.
The most demanding criticism stated at the time that it was an author with special ease for current, living, latent themes, magnifying them with a clean prose, and a vast vision, which focused with a fine sense of humor and those who knew how to give an ironic and intense literary treatment in a journalistic key, within a clear, direct, without rhetorical or gloating absurd narrative style.
Vizcaíno Casas is – although already deceased, his work lives – today more than ever an absolutely unique novelist and a humorist inserted in the best tradition of the genre. A genius of humor and irony.
In the book we find, in effect, an initial fiction, a naturally impossible absurdity: the resurrection of Francisco Franco, the Spanish dictator who erected in chief of state after the Spanish civil war and that defeated communism. The situations posed by Fernando Vizcaíno Casas are unlikely, but rely on the psychology of the Generalissimo and his past, hence the term of «history-fiction».
«… And in the third year he resurrected», a novel defined by the Biscayan Casas as «History-fiction» constitutes a surprising work, destined to overcome, without a doubt, any current editorial success and even any of its own successes. In fact, now more than ever, that the new dictator of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, wanted to revive it, the figure of Francisco Franco in the fifty years of his death, this book takes on an angular and spectacular sense.
I had the immense happiness of meeting Fernando Vizcaíno Casas on a day of Saint-Jordi, Book Day in Barcelona, at a lunch of the Editorial Planeta they sat at the same table; He was an extremely fun and respectful man, he confessed then that his favorite writer was Guillermo Cabrera Infante, considered the Cuban author as the best writer of the Spanish language of his time.
