Chevron activity is important for Venezuela’s economy and benefits the US, according to analysts

The American company Chevron Corp. is one of the reasons why Venezuela’s economy «has been recovering slowly,» after the serious economic crisis that has passed, according to analysts.

This company has helped increase oil production in the Caribbean country above one million barrels per day.

The oil license granted by the United States (USA) to Venezuela would be «the most powerful tool» that President Donald Trump would have to advance with his agenda in the South American nation, which includes stopping irregular migration, according to Bloomberg.

The Venezuelan economist, Asdrúbal Oliveros, said that «Chevron’s activity has introduced a crucial element for macroeconomic stabilization of the country.»

In that sense, he indicated that «it has dynamized the economy by adding jobs and new service contracts for the recovery of wells, and for the sale of currencies to the domestic market.»

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has started from scratch with his pair of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, sending the high -ranking advisor, Ric Grenelll, to Caracas at the end of January of this year, to meet with the Venezuelan ruler .

The result of the meeting was the release of 6 American prisoners and the restart of deportation flights of Venezuelan citizens, but it is unknown if they talked about the energy issue.

So far, the license granted to Chevron to operate in Venezuela has not yet been modified by the US government.

A very difficult letter to play

David Goldwyn, director of the Atlantic Council Energy Advisory Group, said that «the license is a very difficult letter to play.»

He also said that «Chevron’s activity in Venezuela benefits both countries, since it has an efficient actor that helps the Venezuelan economy not retreat and prevents migrants from returning» to the United States.

He also said that «the Trump administration realizes that the ‘maximum pressure’ policy caused economic stress that led to migration to neighboring countries and did not result in a political change.»

Under review

President Donald Trump recently noted that Chevron’s operations in Venezuela are under review and added that «maybe not» would continue to export raw from the oil country.

Bill Turanne, spokesman for Chevron, stressed through an email to the international environment that the American company «has had a constructive presence in Venezuela.»

Likewise, he emphasized that businesses are carried out «in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.»
