General license 41, which allows Chevron to operate in Venezuela, retained its validity this Saturday, March 1.
Despite speculation about a possible cancellation after ads by President Donald Trump, the permit was automatically renewed for six more months, until September 1, 2025. The fact left unchanged the activities of the company in the South American country.
The lawyer José Ignacio Hernández reported the situation through his account in X. “The General License (LG) 41 to Chevron has not been modified. Therefore, today it was automatically renewed for six months, until 1/9. The regulatory option to comply with the decision announced by Trump is to modify the license (for example, the LG41A), ”he said.
The renewal depended on a mechanism established by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) since 2022. This body, responsible for supervising sanctions from the United States, did not intervene in the process. As a result, Chevron assured its continuity in the management of a significant portion of Venezuelan oil production.
