Cuba government paralyzes the country in the face of energy crisis

The Government of Cuba has issued a statement where it suspends all activities that are not essential due to the energy crisis that the country is experiencing.

Through the note shared by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the closure of the work and educational centers was indicated, which will be extended on February 14 and 15.

As the statement clarifies, it is a desperate measure to reduce the energy consumption of Cuba, given the insufficient generation of the country’s main thermoelectric and fuel shortages.

For his part, Marta Elena Feito Cabrera, Minister of Labor and Social Security, offered statements in social networks, where she echoed the aforementioned statement, without offering new details about it.

More blackouts for Cuba

Although the current president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, said that the blackouts were going to reduce significantly in this 2025, the truth is that the country’s situation has only worsened in that regard.

Several locations in the interior of the country, fundamentally the eastern region, have reported up to 14 hours of electricity cuts, a situation that completely disrupts the lives of citizens.

Thermoelectric plants such as Felton 1, one of the main sources of generation of the country, has entered and left the national electrical system several times in recent weeks, according to Cuba’s own electricity union.

Apparently, it is a breakdown in its cooling system, it represents it a high risk for the operation of the plant. According to UNE, the repair process will take approximately 20 days.

During that time, they will work to “cool the turbine for seven days before dismantling the generator’s housing and proceeding with the repair,” explained a state representative.

This, added to the inconsistency of other generators such as Antonio Guiteras, throws a critical panorama for the coming months, so many predict that the most difficult days are about to arrive.

No solutions to the visa

The lack of fuel, the low maintenance of thermoelectric plants and the diversion of resources for their optimal repair, have been some of the factors that have triggered this crisis that seems eternal.

Despite the promises of the Cuban government and the attempt to alleviate the situation with generating patanas, the truth is that, without the necessary infrastructure it will not be possible to trace the streak of the blackouts.
