Cuba releases two other political prisoners

At least two political prisoners left prison in the last hours, in what would seem to be the continuation of the release of the 553 people deprived of liberty who promised the regime in early January, after negotiations with the Catholic Church.

The protester of July 11, 2021 Iván Arocha Quiala was released from the prison of Bladato, in Santiago de Cuba, where he fulfilled a sanction of 10 years of deprivation of liberty for his participation in the protests of that day, in the town of El Caney.

The opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer, who gave Facebook the news of the arocha prison exit, said that other prisoners «will be transferred to the» Mar Verde «prison for later release.»

In the west of the island, Ohaurys Rondón Rivero, a member of the opposition movement for a new Republic (Monr), was also released from a forced field of work Havana, according to Martí News.

Rondón Rivero said he was released with 29 common prisoners, all of the CeTem Correctional Work Camp, in the 1580 D ELA Capital prison.

The activist was sentenced in November 2023 to two years in prison, accused of breaking the critals of a pharmacy in the Marianao municipality, Havana and putting anti -government posters. The charges were removed and a common white weapon tenure crime was charged. Rondón Rivero explained that the agents found a knife in their backpack.

The releases were suspended At the end of January, after the departure of prison from around 172 people, according to the independent organization Justice 11J. Like Arocha, most of the released persons served for sentences for their participation in the protests of July 11.

In mid -February, Amnesty International said that the process of release in Cuba has been full of irregularities and lack of state transparency, leaving hundreds of families from political prisoners «between anguish and hope.»
