As of this February 19, all Cuba Servicers will sell special gasoline only in dollars.
The new measure has been promulgated by the Cimex Corporation, a company that is part of the military conglomerate Business Administration Group (GAESA).
Although for a few months the regulations were established gradually, from this day there are no exceptions and all hydrocarbon pumps must market gas in American dollars.
As Cimex explained, this is due to the «deficit of that fuel» in the whole country. So the collection of currencies would relieve this situation by the PAR provides new funds to the Cuban government.
For those companies in the state sector that have enabled prepaid cards for the purchase of special gasoline, the fuel allocation will directly be of regular gasoline.
Differences between regular and special gasoline
The main difference between both types of gasoline is its octane index. That is, it is its ability to resist premature detonation in the engine of a vehicle.
Depending on the octane will be the resistance of gasoline to make unwanted “explosions” within the engine cylinder before the spark plug sparkus causes it in a controlled way.
In this sense, special gasoline, also known as B-94, has greater octane if compared to the regular, which is also known as B-90. It should be noted that in Cuba does not produce B-94, but that it is imported in its entirety which is one of the reasons to make its price increase in dollars.
Gasoline price in Cuba
According to the independent media Cuban newspaperthese are gasoline prices in Cuba:

Motor gas (B83): 0.95 USD or 114 Cup
Regular gasoline (B90): 1.10 USD or 132 Cup
Special Gasoline (B94): 1.30 USD or 156 Cup

Population response
As expected, the people of Cuba are the most affected with these new measures and the discontent comments already flood social networks. And it is that many Antillanos will now see almost unable to supply for electric plants, as well as private means of transport.
Hundreds of users in social networks question the current and contradictory measures taken by the Government of Havana, which ensures that it does not commit dollarization while including more services and products in said currency.
