Cuban doctors will have greater hiring by the Mexican government

Cuban doctors will have greater opportunities to be hired by the Mexican government, according to Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, president of the Aztec country.

In a press conference offered by the president, he said that Mexico will have the open doors for the hiring of medical personnel and the field of health of other Latin American countries, including Cuba.

This decision is in line and follows the thread of the policy implemented by the previous Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and would seek to cover the current deficit of national professionals in medical positions.

It should be noted that, recently, 179 Cuban health professionals arrived in the Aztec country, who were located in the department of Chiapas and perform different functions at the Mexican Social Security Institute for Welfare (IMSS-Bienestar).

However, the Cuban government retains almost 95% of salaries paid to professionals who send outside the island. According to a newspaper report Reform, of the 100,000 pesos per month (approximately 5.125 dollars) that each professional were paid in October 2024, Antillian doctors only received 27,000 pesos per month (around $ 1,300).

The rest of that money is supposedly used for the benefit of services in Cuba as the restoration of hospitals and medical centers. The poor condition of these constructions and the shortage of medical resources that prevails on the island shows that this premise is not fulfilled.
