In the new session, IACHR will address the deprivation of liberty in Cuba

The Inter -American Human Rights Commission (IACHR) will address the Cuban case in the 192º session period which will take place from March 3 to 7.

«Cuba: Rights of people deprived of liberty with intellectual disabilities», is the title of a session that will be carried out on day 3. Participants include the Independent NGO Cubalex and the Cuban State.

On March 4, the Cuban issue will be addressed in the “Regional: Situation of arbitrary deprivation of liberty for political reasons”.

More than 35 organizations will participate, including Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, Center for a Free Cuba, Freedom House, Prisoners Defenders, Justice 11, Washington Office for Latin America, Cuban Youth Dialogue Bureau, Cultural Rights Observatory, Observatory of Academic Freedom and International Institute on race, equality and human rights.

The IACHR explained that in total 33 public hearings «will be held on the situation of human rights in 18 countries, regional themes, cases before the IACHR, monitoring of recommendations and monitoring of precautionary measures, with the participation of representatives of states and organizations of civil society «.

The hearings in the new session will discuss various issues, “such as the situation of refugees and migrants, the conditions of persons deprived of liberty and rights of indigenous communities; Violence, corruption and state repression in countries such as Colombia, Venezuela and Guatemala; as well as judicial independence in El Salvador and Nicaragua. »

In addition, information on «discrimination against communities in vulnerability communities will be received; trans women in Mexico, rights of refugees and asylum seekers in Argentina; people with disabilities in Cuba and Brazil and the criminalization of defenders and justice operators ;

In the four ex officio hearings that were convened “issues such as the rights of indigenous peoples in front of extractive projects in Surinam will be addressed, monitoring the recommendations of Giei Bolivia and artificial intelligence and human rights in the region, and an audience which will follow up on precautionary measures related to human rights effects of ethnic communities in the context of the armed conflict in Colombia, ”said the autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS).
