Jorge Rodríguez asked the Prosecutor’s Office to apply the Simón Bolívar law to «those who have promoted the sanctions» against Venezuela

The president of the National Assembly (AN, Parliament) of Venezuela, the Chavista Jorge Rodríguez, asked on Thursday to «pay with jail» and «with disqualifications» policies to exercise public positions of popular election those people who have promoted sanctions against the Caribbean country.

«That all the weight (…) falls on them of the laws that we have approved so far,» said Rodríguez, who made a «small reminder» to the Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, of the existence of the ‘Organic Law Simón Bolívar Libertador Bolívar’, approved by the Legislative in November last year.

This regulation – considered «progressive» by the leader of Chavismo, Nicolás Maduro – establishes sentences of 25 to 30 years in prison and fines of up to one million euros for those who promote or are involved in foreign sanctions, as well as the political disqualification of 60 years.

«We exhort, dear prosecutor, to be applied (this law),» added the deputy during a legislative session, controlled by Chavismo.

Previously, the first vice president of the AN, also Chavista Pedro Infante, accused the opponents María Corina Machado, Juan Guaidó, Leopoldo López, Antonio Ledezma and Julio Borges, as well as the Popular Will (VP) party, of having celebrated the end of the license, by order of the Government of Donald Trump, which allowed the American company Chevron to operate in Venezuela.

On Tuesday, after Washington announced that Chevron has until April 3 to end its operations in the Caribbean country, the Venezuelan executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, blamed the «Lobby of Extremism», in reference to anti -anticipation, of that measure.

In addition, he announced the launch of the so -called ‘Absolute Productive Independence Plan’, with the purpose – explained the head of Hydrocarbons – that the oil industry and the Venezuelan economy «follow its recovery.»

The departure of the company is an economic setback for Venezuela, since it had contributed to the reactivation of the oil production of this country, which last January first exceeded one million barrels per day (BPD) since June 2019, according to official figures disseminated by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

At the end of February, Trump had already announced that he would end the licenses, criticizing Maduro’s «regime» – who swore in January for a third mandate after his questioned re -election in 2024 – for not having accelerated the deportations of undocumented migrants in the US to the «fast rhythm» that Washington expected.
