Maduro after revocation of the license to Chevron: «He damaged communications with the US and affected the trips we had scheduled with migrants»

Nicolás Maduro said Saturday that the revocation of Chevron’s license to operate in Venezuela «damaged the communications» that had been opened with the United States, complicating efforts to repatriate Venezuelans.

«Now we have a problem because with what they did have damaged the communications we had opened,» Maduro said during a live broadcast by Venezuelan television (VTV).

He explained that he was interested in maintaining that dialogue to bring all Venezuelans who have «prisoners and persecuted» in the United States, «just for being migrants.»

Maduro denounced that persecution against Venezuelan migrants in the United States «must cease,» arguing that «they have dignity, they have family and their human rights must be respected.» In addition, he criticized that the revocation of the Chevron license has been made «without explanation», which, according to him, affected the repatriation plans.

«We were prepared for that and much more. That affected the trips we have scheduled with our planes to bring our brothers, ”he said. Maduro recalled that, in the past, they managed to repatriate Venezuelans on coordinated flights, but now those efforts have been hindered.

Maduro described as «sad and unfortunate» the situation of Venezuelans who, according to him, only sought «a better future» as a consequence of the economic sanctions imposed by the United States. «They created the sanctions that forced many to migrate,» he said.

He reiterated his call to respect the human rights of migrants and to stop persecution against Venezuelans abroad. «We must work together to solve these problems, not to create more obstacles,» he concluded.
