Matanzas prosecutor indicated as «White Collar repressor» by process against Cuban academics

The provincial prosecutor of Matanzas, Ana Lilian Caballero Arango, was included in the list of Cuban repressors by request 4 and 3 years of deprivation of libertyrespectively, replaced by correctional work without internment, against dissident academics Alina Bárbara López Hernández and Jenny Pantoja Torres.

Caballero Arango accused academics of crimes as «contempt, disobedience and attack» for demonstrating peacefully in claim of political and socio -economic changes in the country.

The organization accuses the prosecutor Matancera of «prevarication» and «crimes against humanity», specifically «persecution for political reasons», and classifies it as a white -collar repressor.

The judicial authorities communicated last week to Cuban academics López Hernández and Pantoja Torres, almost a year after the occurrence of the events for which they impute them, which will face trial. Both have denounced this process against them as a strategy of the Cuban regime to silence political dissent and stigmatize opponents.

They have also indicated the legal violations committed by the authorities, such as the violation of the 180 -day period established in Cuba the Criminal Procedure Law to present the case to court.

In recent years, the Cuban repressor project has included in its list several members of the Cuban judicial apparatus involved in processes against political opponents and peaceful protesters, including those of the protests of July 11, 2021.

Some of these judges and prosecutors have emigrated to the United States despite their close link with the island’s regime.

Cuban repressors has identified More than 100 former officials, judges and officers of the communist regime in the US. Some of them have decided to return to the island, and others are in custody of US justice.
