Mexican academic expresses concern about the quality of Cuban doctors

Ismael Herrera Benavente, director of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of San Luis de Potosí, in Mexico, denounced that Cuban doctors have displaced the students of the School of Medicine and that it is concerned about the quality of the service they provide.

“We have to pass several certifications, accreditations, valuations, evaluations. Present exams to enter, medical residences or medical specialties. Of course, the quality of Cuban doctors worries, «questioned the academic.

According to Herrera, due to this situation, they have had to search or open clinical fields so that the students of that Faculty of Medicine can obtain the same teaching they were having in the places where they performed the social service, now copied by the Cubans.

The government of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador signed a Cooperation Agreementin May 2022, in terms of health with Cuban ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel to incorporate Cuban doctors in hospitals and rural or high marginalization communities. Since then, hundreds of doctors have arrived in the Aztec country.

President Claudia Sheinbaum recently said that she will continue to hire Cuban doctors and other nationalities.

«Yes, where specialists are needed in our country and there is the solidarity of other countries in order to come to support health services, the hiring is still continued, because what prevails is the health care of the population,» affirmed.

In November last year, the Mexican government was indicated as an accomplice of Cuba in a plot of «modern slavery» When paying the Havana regime millions of dollars for the hiring of doctors of the island.

«Although it seems a strategy to meet the lack of medical personnel, he conceals a harsh reality: the use of Cuban health workers under a scheme of trafficking in persons, denounced internationally and promoted by opaque agreements between the Mexican government and the Miguel regime Díaz-Canel, «said Mariana Gómez del Campo, president of the Christian Democratic Organization of America.

The arrival of Cuban doctors to Mexico has been criticized by medical schools, who consider the agreement a grievance towards them and denounce that there are many unemployed nationals or with temporary jobs, with very low wages, or in areas of extreme insecurity.

They also point out that the money that Mexico disburses will stop at the hands of the Cuban government, and therefore the State is the most benefited, and not the doctors, who receive a tiny salary.
