Summit in Paris brings together world leaders and technological titans

World leaders arrive in Paris for an artificial intelligence summit, in which difficult diplomatic conversations are expected while technological titans fight to dominate in an industry that advances quickly. Heads of State, senior government officials, general directors and scientists from about 100 countries participate in the two -day international summit starting Monday.

Among the prominent attendees are the United States vice president, JD Vance, on his first trip abroad since he assumed office, and the Vice Prime Chinese Minister, Zhang Guoqing.

«We are living a technological and scientific revolution that we have rarely seen,» said French president Emmanuel Macron, on the national television station France Dos.

France and Europe must take advantage of the «opportunity» because the AI »will allow us to live better, learn better, work better, take better care and depend on us to put this artificial intelligence at the service of human beings,» he said.

Vance’s debut abroad

The summit will provide some European leaders with the opportunity to meet Vance for the first time. The 40 -year -old vice president had only 18 months as Ohio Junior senator when Donald Trump chose him as his formula partner.

Vance traveled to Europe accompanied by his wife Usha and his three children, Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel. They were received on French soil on Monday morning by Manuel Valls, the Minister of overseas of France, and the United States Embassy, David McCawley.

On Tuesday, Vance will have a working lunch with Macron, with conversations about Ukraine and the Middle East in the menu. The vice president also plans to hold bilateral meetings that day with the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

Vance, like President Donald Trump, has questioned the expenditure of the United States in Ukraine and the strategy to isolate the Russian president, Vladimir Putin. Trump promised to end the fighting in the first six months of assuming the position.

Vance will attend the Munich Security Conference later this week, where he could meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The leaders in Europe have closely followed Trump’s recent statements about the threats of imposing tariffs on the European Union, taking control of Greenland and their suggestion that the Palestinians evict Gaza once they finish the fighting in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Promoting advances in AI

The summit, which brings together important actors such as Google, Microsoft and OpenAi, aims to promote progress in sectors such as health, education, environment and culture.

A global public-private association called “Current AI” will be presented to support large-scale initiatives that serve the general interest.

«This summit in Paris is the first time we will have had such a broad international discussion in one place about the future of AI,» said Linda Griffin, vice president of public policy in Mozilla. «I see it as a moment of establishment of standards.»

Nick Reiners, a senior geotechnology analyst in Eurasia Group, pointed out an opportunity to guide AI governance in a new direction by «moving away from this concentration of power among a handful of private actors and building this public interest in place» .

However, it still is clear if the United States will support such initiatives.

French organizers also expect the summit to lead to important investment ads in Europe.

France will announce private investments in AI for a total of 109,000 million euros (113,000 million dollars) in the coming years, said Macron, who presented it as “the equivalent” to the Trump Stargate data centers project.

The Indian Prime Minister, Coanfrerion of the Summit

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, acts as a coanfrerion with Macron in an effort to involve more global actors in the development of AI and prevent the sector from becoming a battle between the United States and China.

India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, emphasized the need for equitable access to AI to avoid «perpetuating a digital gap that already exists throughout the world.»

Macron will also travel on Wednesday with Modi to the southern port of Marseille to inaugurate a new Indian consulate and visit the Iter Nuclear Research Site.

France has become a key defense partner for India, with ongoing negotiations on the purchase of 26 Rafale combat jets and three Scorpene submarines. Officials in New Delhi said the discussions are in the final phase and the agreement could be signed in a few weeks.
