The dead by the Israeli offensive in Gaza ascend to 48,388 despite the truce

The total number of dead in the Gaza Strip amounted to 48,388 on Saturday after the Civil Defense teams recovered 21 bodies from among the rubble in the last 48 hours, the Ministry of Health reported, in the hands of Hamas.

In a statement, the Ministry also reported that the Israeli attacks were charged by the lives of two Palestinians in the last two days, although the truce in the strip was still in force.

The data contributed this Saturday adds 59 deaths more to the figure released by the Ministry a week ago, when it estimated that the number of deaths was 48,329.

The Palestinian authorities have recently added more than 400 deaths to the total computation of recent months, while rescue teams continue to work to rescue more bodies under tons of rubble, since the high fire entered into force on January 19.

On the other hand, in the last 48 hours more than twenty injured reached the few hospitals that remain operational in the devastated Palestinian enclave. Thus, the total number of injured is already raised to 111,803 from the beginning of the Israeli invasion on October 7, 2023.

Local sources in Gaza informed Efe that during the first hour of this Saturday Israeli tanks opened fire against neighborhoods of Rafah, at the southern end of the Gaza Strip, where Palestinian families live.

The first phase of the truce agreement ends this Saturday, after 42 days during which Israel and Hamas have exchanged 33 hostages (eight of them dead) for about 1,800 Palestinian prisoners.

According to the text, tomorrow Sunday should start the second phase in which Islamists would release the rest of hostages that still retain and Israel would release Palestinian prisoners, in addition to removing all their troops from the strip, including the Philadelphia corridor, to give way to the end of the war.

However, everything indicates that this phase will not take effect on Sunday, since negotiations between Hamas and Israel have broken in the last hours.

The Government of Benjamín Netanyahu, according to Egyptian sources, advocates to extend the current first phase, while the Islamist organization accuses it of not wanting to assume the commitment to end the war, contemplated in the second phase of the agreement.
