The trial for the death of Diego Maradona begins this Tuesday in Argentina

The trial for the death of Argentine footballer Diego Armando Maradona, which occurred on November 25, 2020, begins this Tuesday in San Isidro, town on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, with seven health professionals charged with simple homicide with eventual intent.

The objective is to determine if there was a chain of responsibilities by the medical team that took care of the Argentine star during his last days of life.

The trial will be held in the Criminal Court No. 3 of San Isidro, province of Buenos Aires, starting at 9.00 (12.00 GMT).

Maradona died at age 60 due to respiratory failure and cardiac arrest «in a situation of helplessness» and «fought to their fate,» according to prosecutors Patricio Ferrari, Cosme Iribarren and Laura Capra, in charge of the investigation.

The prosecutors argue that the defendants knew they were acting badly and they expressed it in their chats, with phrases like «it will die» or «this is wrong.»

The neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, psychoanalyst Carlos Díaz, the doctor and coordinator of the Private Health Company Swiss Medical, Nancy Forlini; The clinical doctor Pedro Di Spagna, the Coordinator of Nurses Mariano Perroni and the nurse Ricardo Almirón.

Before this case there have been four complaints by the five recognized children of Maradona and another for the footballer’s sisters.

One of the complaints is from Dalma and Giannina Maradona, footballer’s daughters with Claudia Villafañe, who are represented by the media lawyer Fernando Burlando.

The other three are from the minor Diego Fernando, son of Verónica Ojeda; Diego Junior and Jana Maradona (the last to be recognized).

The fifth complaint accepted by Justice is that of the Maradona sisters.
