The United Kingdom Government showed its «deep concern» on Monday at the cut of electrical supplies announced by Israel in Gaza and warned that not ending that measure contravenes international legislation.
A Downing Street spokesman – official and official residence of the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer – urged the Benjamin Netanyahu government to reverse this announcement made on Sunday.
The Israeli government had also announced a week before the suspension of humanitarian supplies to the strip.
«Our position is that humanitarian aid should never be contingent to a high fire or used as a political tool,» said an official spokesman for the Labor Prime Minister.
Questioned about whether that measure was a violation of international legislation, the source pointed out that this is «an issue for the International Court.»
However, he added that «a detention of the goods and supplies that enter Gaza, including basic needs such as electricity, puts at risk violating Israel’s obligations by virtue of international humanitarian law.»
The suspension of help and electricity in the strip arrives in the middle of a dispute about the next phase of the high fire between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamás. EFE
