The president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced on Tuesday the creation of the «Golden Card», a migratory permit for millionaires who wish to establish themselves in the country and that will enjoy the same privileges as the permanent residents, who have the well -known «green card.»

«We are going to sell a ‘golden card’. There is the ‘green card’, but this will be a ‘golden card’. We will put a price of about five million dollars, and that will grant them the privileges of the ‘Green Card’, in addition to a path to US citizenship, ”Trump declared before the press at the White House.

The president referred to this new immigration permit as the «Trump Golden Card», suggesting that he could bear his own name.

«This will attract many people to our country, who will be rich and have been very successful and that will spend a lot of money, pay many taxes and give work to many people. We believe it will be great success, ”said the president.

Trump’s golden card will replace the EB-5 visa

The Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, who was with Trump in the Oval Office, added that the measure will enter into force in about two weeks and will serve to replace the Immigration program for EB-5 investors, which allows investors, together with their wives and children under 21, to obtain the permanent residence in the United States.

Lutnick said, without providing evidence, that the EB-5 program was «fraudulent», which is why they will replace it.

The United States EB-5 visa was created through the 1990 Immigration Law and offered foreign investors the possibility of obtaining permanent residence if they made a substantial investment in a business in the US and, in turn, generated at least 10 full-time jobs for US or immigrant citizens with work authorization.

Over the years, Congress has several times this program and its access conditions.

For example, in 2022 it was established that the minimum investment to qualify in the EB-5 program would be $ 1,050,000, although some exceptions were contemplated.
