President Donald Trump said that most tariffs imposed on Mexico and Canada this week are suspended until April 2. The pause includes only products under the T-MEC free trade agreement, and includes numerous agri-food products, cars and gasoline.

This decision came after a telephone call, on Thursday, between Trump and the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum.

Trump said:

“We had a very good conversation. We also talk about medicines and have been working much more lately. Do they realize that in terms of people who enter and medicines? We have achieved tremendous progress in both aspects. ”

Sheinbaum, on the other hand, explained that the strong decrease in fentanyl flows on the southern border in recent months, 41.5% alone in February thanks to Mexico’s effort, convinced Trump to suspend tariffs.

Meanwhile, about the situation after April 2, he said that there is confidence that the free trade agreement to Mexico.

“The objective is that Mexico, by not collecting tariffs to the US, the reciprocal relationship is also not charge tariffs. Anyway, work is still working together. That is, the Mexico-US-US Treaty is respected. ”

Meanwhile, the fall of the main US stock market rates accelerated this afternoon even after Trump’s announcement about Mexico and Canada.
