The United States Department of State has taken measures that restrict the authorization of American visas to officials of foreign governments and other persons that are believed are responsible for facilitating illegal immigration to the country.
The Secretary of State Marco Rubio explained that the policy will affect immigration officials, customs, airports and port authorities, as well as others that «deliberately facilitate the transit of foreigners trying to enter the United States illegally through the southwest border.»
This new policy complements those that were expanded in 2024 that restrict visas to directors of travel agencies and tour operators «that facilitate irregular migration» as well as those of companies that offer them transport by land, sea or charter air.
«These measures will continue until these officials assume the responsibility of guaranteeing the implementation of policies and the application of existing laws to avoid the transit of these individuals,» Rubio said in a press release. «The United States will not reverse when it comes to defending our national security interests.»
