Venezuela says he requested the repatriation of a group of migrants who were in the Naval Base of Guantanamo

Venezuela said Thursday that he had requested the repatriation of a group of migrants from his country that were sent by the United States to the Guantanamo military base.

Previously the United States reported the transfer of 177 migrants from Guantanamo to the Central American country.

The migrants left Honduras on a flight of the United States immigration and customs control service (ICE) and boarded an airline of the Venezuelan state airline convisas to Caracas.

In a statement, the Gobieno of Nicolás Maduro thanked the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, and the former president Manuel Zelaya, for «the collaboration provided for the rescue.»

Maduro indicated that Venezuelans were taken «unfairly» to the naval base. ICE confirmed the transfer of 177 «Venezuelan illegal foreigners.»

The US government has registered a priority to the deportation of people who have exhausted all legal resources to remain in the country. Almost 1.5 million had final expulsion orders until November 24, according to ICE figures, including more than 22,000 Venezuelans.

In a judicial document presented on Thursday, federal immigration and military authorities said that «Venezuela has historically resisted accepting the repatriation of its citizens, but recently has begun to accept expulsions after high -level political conversations and an investment of significant resources.»

Last week, two Venezuelan flights transported 190 immigrants directly from the United States to Venezuela in an unusual moment of coordination between the two countries, which could be giving way to regular exchanges.

The authorities began almost daily flights to Guantanamo from an army base in western Texas. For Wednesday, 51 of newly arrived immigrants were being arrested in tents within low security facilities, while another 127 were in a high security area. The count of the arrested was updated after Thursday’s transfer flights.
