The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, proposed on Tuesday the release of all the prisoners of both sides and a maritime and aerial truce that also ends attacks against energy infrastructure, as the first step to move towards a negotiated exit to war with Russia.
«We are prepared to work quickly in order to finish the war and the first phases can be the release of prisoners and a truce in the air – missile prohibition, long -range drones, energy against energy and other civil infrastructure – and a truce in the immediate sea, if Russia does the same»Zelenski wrote in a message posted in X, where he advocated «working with the United States in search of a strong final agreement.»
In the message, Zelenski asked the president of the USA, Donald Trump, to resume cooperation, after Friday’s encounter in the Oval Office, and was willing to collaborate under his «strong leadership.»
«I want to reiterate Ukraine’s commitment to peace»he wrote in his X Zelenski account after he was accused by Trump of not being interested in putting an end to war.
«My team and I are willing to work under the strong leadership of President Trump for a lasting peace,» The Ukrainian State Chief also said.
Zelenski – who the Trump administration has asked to be publicly apologized for what happened in the oval office if he wants to amend relationships – said he is interested in «working quickly to finish the war» and proposed the possibility of that partial truce.
This idea was already raised on Sunday by the French president, Emmanuel Macron who, together with the British prime minister, Keir Starmer, announced an initiative to present with kyiv a road map to finish the conflict that must be communicated to Trump once completed.
«Then, we want to advance very quickly in all the next phases and work with the US to agree on a solid final agreement,» Zelenski wrote on Tuesday in X about the steps that would follow the initial partial truce he proposes.
The Ukrainian president also reaffirmed the availability of Ukraine to sign «at any time and in any format that is convenient» the economic agreement proposed by Washington for which kyiv will contribute to its natural resources to a common investment fund but dominated by the US that would serve to rebuild Ukraine.
«We see this agreement as a step towards greater security and towards solid security guarantees, and I really hope to work effectively,» said Zelenski, who re -thank Trump and US for his support after the reproaches received by the Republican administration that he has not shown himself grateful enough.
