However, with the cancellation of Parole, the Government has temporarily suspended the processing of residence requests for those who were covered by this program.

Migration law experts warn that the situation requires immediate action. The lawyer Héctor Benítez explained in an interview with Telemundo 51 that the administration seeks to prevent migrants from reaching the two years of continuous presence in the country, a fundamental requirement for certain legal processes.

In addition, he warned that they could use accelerated deportation procedures, even for those who legally entered the Parole program.

For her part, lawyer Rosely Chaviano, in statements to Univisión 23, offered three clear recommendations for those who are in this situation:

If they have not initiated any migratory procedure, they run a high risk of being prioritized for deportation.

Those who already have pending applications, such as asylum, residence or temporary protection status (TPS), must seek legal advice immediately.

Chaviano also called for caution, warning about unscrupulous individuals who offer rapid and fraudulent solutions. He recommended to go to certified lawyers only to handle these complex cases.

There have already been judicial lawsuits in different states in response to the cancellation of Parole. In Massachusetts, beneficiaries of the program and organizations such as Haitian Bridge Alliance They filed a lawsuit against DHS. In addition, in the state of California, another legal action seeks to restore both the parole and the temporal protection status.
