A bill that Bucsca educates young people about atrocities of communism

Cuban -American representative María Elvira Salazar and other members of the House of Representatives again presented on Thursday the Crucial Teaching Law of Communism, which had been approved by the Chamber in the previous legislature but without becoming a law.

Senator John Kennedy presented the complementary version in the Senate.

«Communism is one of the most destructive political ideologies that the world has ever seen,» Salazar said in a press release. «The Crucial Teaching Law of Communism is important because our young people must remember the crimes of the communists, including the tasks against my voters and their families in the 27th district of Florida.»

The bill «makes educational materials available through the Memory Foundation of the victims of communism to help educate secondary and high school students about the dangers of communism and totalitarianism, and how they contradict the fundamental principles of freedom and democracy in the United States.»

More than 100 million people have died due to the tragic legacy of communism, but due to the lack of precise educational materials, «almost a third of the members of generation Z have a favorable vision of communism,» Salazar lamented.

This effort is inspired by the Education Law never again, approved by Congress in 2020, which created a program to educate young people about the Holocaust. In addition, «it gives continuity to similar efforts from Florida and other states to educate US students about the failed experiment of communism throughout history.»

«Knowledge about the horrible crimes of communism and related totalitarian regimes is unfortunately scarce in the United States, especially among younger generations,» said Don Ritter, founding president of the Memory society and Emeritus Trust of the Commemorative Foundation of the victims of communism.

“Educating people about the brutality, immorality and ideology of communist regimes is necessary to prevent the recurrence of totalitarian horrors that extended throughout the twentieth and early twenty -first century. It is important to highlight that this knowledge helps to safeguard the foundational principles of freedom and democracy of the United States in the face of contemporary forms of communist ideology. We applaud the congresswoman Salazar for her leadership in the creation and reintroduction of the Crucial Teaching Law of Communism, and we urge the leaders of the House of Representatives to submit the bill to vote promptly, ”said Ritter.

«Today, American students are increasingly unaware of the brutal history and the continuous oppression of communist regimes,» said Dr. Eric Patterson, president and executive director of the Memory Foundation of the victims of communism.

Senator Kennedy, meanwhile, said that “communism is cancer and always produces the same results: oppression, suffering and death. We must teach the next generation of Americans the threat of communism for the freedom and justice of innocent people worldwide. ”

The bill has the support of Cuban Americans Nicole Malliotakis, Mario Díaz-Balart and Carlos Giménez. Other copatrochinters are:

  • Representative John Rutherford (FL-05)
  • Burgess Owens Representative (UT-4)
  • Monica de la Cruz representative (TX-15)
  • Representative Gust Bilirakis (FL-9)
  • Representative Buddy Carter (GA-01)
  • Representative Ashley Henson (IA-02)
  • Doug Lamalfa Representative (CA-01)
