A tornado in Pinar del Río surprises the residents of Chamizo

Only hours after the tornado in Chamizo, at 5:22 p.m., the municipality of San Juan and Martínez was hit by a severe local storm.

Hanizi fell, the winds reached between 70 and 80 km/hyred heavy rains with frequent electrical discharges.

The Yuniesky Pendas weather observer reported that the largest registered streak was 52 km/h, and the accumulated rain was 11.9 mm.

The main cause behind the tornado in Pinar del Río and the storms that accompanied it is a trough in the middle and high levels of the troposphere.

This weather system was combined with high humidity, the strong daytime warming and local factors that favored the formation of extreme phenomena.

According to meteorologists Raydel Ruisánchez and Humberto Raúl Acosta González, these conditions remain active and could continue to cause storms in the next few days.

The impact beyond Pinar del Río
