Activists questioning the regime project against gender violence in Cuba

Independent organizations that monitor gender violence in Cuba showed distrust of the effectiveness of an official project that aims to create comprehensive services for the prevention, protection and rehabilitation of victims.

According to a text released in the Granma newspaper, the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) – governmental entity that groups and controls the women of the island – intends to implement the program in 40 municipalities in the country.

Yanelys Núñez, from the Wing Tense Genus Observatory, believes that the FMC will end up saying «that the attention that women receive is of excellence, more than anything because they have to leave well stopped to the regime in this scenario of the fight against gender violence ”

Núñez recalled that the Cuban institution system is mired in a deep crisis, lacks resources and also political will to advance the search for solutions.

«Why will this type of projects fructify in a ruined country where there is a structural crisis in every way?» He said.

Similarly, he questioned the lack of information and transparency about the initiative whose dissemination spits essential data for his analysis: “It is not known if, for example, there will be shelters for victims – which is a basic strategy in the fight against violence gender-, how are the support of victims and repair. ”

In reference to the note, Núñez criticizes that “he does not even put a link to read the project, to know which are, those 40 municipalities in which they say it will be implemented. You cannot know, in a breakdown, how it will work. ”

Elena Larrinaga, from the female network of Cuba, an organization that seeks to empower women to neutralize gender violence, indicated that the initiative of the ruling party «responds to the acceptance of a reality» that activists have been denouncing, a long time ago, a long time ago .
