Cnn | The desperate search for responses from relatives of migrants deported to El Salvador: «He was removed»

Yurliana Andreina Chacín Gómez took her mobile, while her three -year -old daughter clung to her, when the voice of a federal official resonated by the phone.

«He was removed,» confirmed the official, while Chacín Gómez, with the translation of Priscilla Alvarez de CNN, asked about his brother’s whereabouts, a Venezuelan who has been in American custody. And then, the answer he had been desperate. His brother, Jhon Willian Chacín Gómez, had been sent to El Salvador.

Overwhelmed by pain, Chacín Gómez collapsed on the couch with his family.

For four days, Chacín Gómez had been looking for his brother after watching him in a video of the Salvadoran government as one of those sent to El Salvador from the United States, accused by the Trump administration of having ties with the Venezuelan gang the Aragua train.

«He is not a criminal,» he shouted in Spanish. The story of Chacín Gómez is, in many ways, consistent with those of multiple family members and immigration lawyers who talked to CNN: Venezuelan migrants arrested in the US, suddenly disappearing from the US federal system, and leaving families and lawyers looking frantically.

CNN communicated with the US National Security Department to obtain a list of those transferred to El Salvador and requested comments to Immigration and Customs Control (ICE) on the case of Chacín Gómez’s brother. CNN also asked ICE information about the cases of others deported in this story and contacted agencies in Venezuela and El Salvador to find details about them.

Deportations are derived from the invocation by President Donald Trump of a wide war authority that paved the way for the rapid expulsion of alleged members of a Venezuelan gang to El Salvador, which has agreed to receive migrants from the United States. The administration said that 137 of those immigrants were deported by virtue of the Law of Foreign Enemies.

Despite the high -level accusations raised by the Trump administration that the deportees were affiliated with the Aragua train, it has not provided evidence at the case of a case case, and CNN has not been able to confirm whether any of the deported migrants identified in this story has some affiliation with the gang.

«I have represented people in the immigration court for 15 years and my organization represents thousands of people every year. This is the most shocking thing I have seen that happens to one of our clients,» said Lindsay Toczylowski, co -founder and president of the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, who represents a Venezuelan asylum seeker who, they say, were abruptly taken to El Salvador during the weekend. The Law of Foreign Enemies, a dark norm of the 18th century, has only been invoked three times in the history of the United States, all during important military conflicts. The arrests and deportations that occur under this measure do not go through the system of immigration cuts, which gives immigrants the opportunity to seek relief and present their case to stay in the country.
