«Although the film is just in its early stages, we know that it will be full of humor, heart and adventure,» said Iger.
«We cannot wait to share more details soon,» added the executive during the annual shareholders meeting of The Walt Disney Company without giving any details about the plot.
The director Lee Unkrich, who commanded the first installment, will be in charge of the project that deals with Mexican traditions while the veteran of the Pixar Mark Nielsen study will be in charge of production.
The first ‘Coco’ (2017) film is about the story of Miguel, a child who dreams of being a musician and who error ends up entering the land of the dead.
To return he will need to receive the blessing of some member of his family, with whom he has a conflict, because the future that glimpses for him does not match the young man’s dreams.
The film made a picturesque portrait of Mexican traditions around the celebration of Day of the Dead, which are held throughout the country every year during the month of November.
‘Coco’ was a success to exceed 800 million dollars at the international box office and was crowned as the best animated film in the 2018 Oscar Awards, where he also received a statuette for the best original song for the song ‘Remember me’.
The sequel adds to a list of films in which Pixar is working on some of its most beloved franchises such as the fifth movie of ‘Toy Story’, the third of ‘Incredibles’, as well as the second part of ‘Elio’.
