Cuban civil society members meet with the US Mission Chief in Cuba

The business manager of the United States Embassy in Havana, Mike Hammer, of tour of the island, recently visited several members of Cuban civil society in the center of the country.

Donaida Pérez Pasiro, released last January, is a former Cuban political prey that in March headed an international campaign for the liberation of Loreto, with the support of renowned personalities and intellectuals around the world.

The United States Mission Chief in Cuba, during his visit to Santa Clara, also reported on the social network X that he met with relatives of political prisoners Andy García Lorenzo and Aroni Yanko García Valdés, and heard «the painful experiences of their families.» He added that «we join their request for liberation for them and for all unjustly imprisoned political prisoners.» He concluded his message with numeral #todos, in reference to the immediate release of all detainees of consciousness on the island.

Also, in Santa Clara, the diplomat visited the ladies of Blanco Yaima Elena Pérez López and Marbelis González Reyes, who reported the constant harassment of the political police that intercepts them when they try to attend Mass on Sundays. Hammer wondered in his publication:

The agenda of the trip to Santa Clara also included on the 29th an encounter with Guillermo «Coco» Fariñas, leader of Fantu and Sájarov Award of the European Parliament in 2010. As published on their social networks, Hammer said they talked about the long history of Fariñas in defense of human rights in Cuba. Alicia Hernández, mother of the Cuban opponent, «almost 90 years old,» said the diplomat.
