Cuban flag waves in the goal of the Marathon of Madrid in message for political prisoners (video)

The journalist and activist Eugenia Gutiérrez entered the goal in the Marathon of Madrid held the Cuban flag, in a message in favor of the release of the more than a thousand political prisoners on the island, with the purpose of making visible its situation before the national and international community.

Gutiérrez, daughter of a Cuban political expricer and member of the Council for democratic transition in Cuba (CTDC), launched on March 26 the #Nolosabandnemos campaign, to help those imprisoned on the island for political and conscientious reasons and their families, and raise awareness about the harsh imprinting conditions they face.

The marathoner, who practices this sporting activity since 2017, decided to travel the 42 kilometers of the Madrid route for this purpose, the CTDM stood out in a post.

The Zurich Rock ‘N’ Roll Running Series Madrid brings together about 45 thousand participants, including about 10,000 foreigners from more than 110 countries.

The #Nolosabandnemos campaignthat pays tribute «to all defenders of rights and freedoms of the Cuban people who are today unfairly imprisoned,» will be active until May 4, 2025.

According to the most recent report of the organization Prisoners Defenderswith headquarters in Madrid, in Cuba there are around 1,152 political and conscience prisoners, who suffer judicial convictions and provisions of limitation of freedom by the prosecutors without judicial supervision, due process or effective defense, in flagrant violation of international law.

At least two of those political prisoners have been recent victims of terrible torture in jail, the non -governmental organization said.

Complaints of extreme conditions in Cuban prisons are frequent. From the denial of medical care for serious diseases to overcrowding, lack of hygiene and medications, testimonies reveal a humanitarian crisis in the Cuban penitentiary system.
