Cubans come together to rent air ambulance and save a child’s life on the island

The child Damir Ortiz Ramírez will be able to travel to the United States in aerial ambulance thanks to the collaboration of Cubans inside and outside the island.

This noble gesture was completed in less than a day, after knowing the news that this child urgently needed to receive multidisciplinary treatment for its medical condition.

Cubans residing in the United States and other parts of the world, as well as within the island, joined to gather 36 thousand dollars, of the 38 thousand that costs the rent of this medical vehicle, which will transport Damir to the United States.

In this country, the child is expected to be treated by a team that evaluates their health status. This little one has been diagnosed with type 1 neurofibromatosis, a plexiform neurofibroma in the right eye, in addition to acute leukemia.

For her part, activist Diasniurka Salcedo, who has been one of the main voices in this campaign, said that if you can gather the missing money, Damir and her mother will travel to Miami next Saturday.

As explained by the activist, within Cuba they have managed to gather more than one million Cuban pesos, while artists and Antillians from the diaspora have contributed the rest of the necessary money.

Last Friday Eliannis Ramírez, mother of the child, received the visa for her and Diaman, from the American embassy in Cuba, news confirmed by Salcedo on social networks.

Due to the severity of the case, the diplomatic personnel made an exception and attended this case on the weekend, since the child requires immediate attention by medical personnel and qualified equipment.

Fund collection has been carried out through the Gofundme platform. However, in order to extract money, it is necessary to provide evidence that the child is already in the United States.

For this reason, Diasniurka has asked that anyone who can collaborate with this noble cause does so. «The collection of funds continues in pause, because politics does not allow us to use that money, because the child is not here,» the opponent explained to the Cuban government.

Damir runs out of time. In recent months, its health status has deteriorated deeply due to acute leukemia, which has weakened its immune system.

The money raised will not be only for the rental of the air ambulance, but will also be used to pay the treatment in a Miami health center, so it is necessary to reach the figure of 40 thousand dollars.
