The documentary «Operation Makasi» that takes up the participation of Cuban exiles in the confrontation of communist advance in African territories was acclaimed on Friday by young students of the International University of Florida (FIU).

The presentation, to full theater, took place in one of the salons of the Graham Center and with the sponsorship of the Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy and the Fiu Cuban Studies Institute (CRI).

This film story about the struggle of Cuban exiles in Africa from the sixties until the end of the eighties of the last century was revealing for most attendees, the young students of the Floridana University and also for the relatives of the exiles who participated in those deeds.

The interim director of the CRI, Sebastián Arcos, and Professor Daniel Pereira emphasized the value of this documentary material to meet the imperative need to know the history of Cuban exile, told by its protagonists.

At the end of the film’s exhibition, produced by the Cuban Historical Memory Institute, a question and answers session was held, in which Federico Flaquer put a culmination to the event with the testimony of his personal experience.

With the direction of Wenceslao Cruz and production of Pedro Corzo, the documentary highlights the sacrifice of those exiles who stepped on African lands, at different times, to take part in a silent war that remains in large part unknown.
