After 17 years of transformative leadership, the acclaimed Venezuelan orchestra director, Gustavo Dudamel, prepares for his last season at the head of the Los Angeles Philharmonic (the Phil). His farewell will be high, with a special program entitled «Thank you, Gustavo», which promises concerts of high interpretive level and the participation of renowned artists.
Before assuming his new role as director of the New York Philharmonic, Dudamel wants to thank the city of Los Angeles for the wonderful years. Among the most outstanding events is the presentation of the Opera «Die Walküre» by Wagner.
Gustavo Dudamel began his farewell season with an emotional message on his social networks, where he expressed his deep gratitude for the work done with the Phil musicians. «Together, we reimagine what an orchestra can become, and how it can act in the service of the community that surrounds it and also of the world,» Dudamel wrote. «In these extraordinary artists I found an infinite source of generosity and a visionary commitment to excellence in musical creation.»
During his mandate, Dudamel was characterized by an innovative programming, which covered from new interpretations of the classics to contemporary works and original orders, expanding the scope and perspective of symphonic music. «I am very proud of our innovative audio and video recordings that have reached millions of people around the world,» said the director.
With deep gratitude to La Phil, Dudamel stressed that the achievements were the result of exceptional teamwork. «Every moment we spend together is a gift, and every note a memory that will continue to resonate for many years,» he concluded.
