Jorge Martínez, one of the most beloved actors inside and outside Cuba, has recently revealed that he has been fighting cancer for years.
Through an intimate and personal interview on the YouTube channel The Cuban family, The interpreter told how this disease has survived and how its development within the small and large screen on the island has been.
The most difficult role to interpret
According to Martínez, ten years ago he managed to overcome a lung cancer. After getting ahead against all forecast, only two years ago a second carcinoma was detected, this time in his throat.

The diagnosis came while the actor filmed the novel The right to dreamand the medical team that attended him confirmed that they only gave him six months of life. This news devastated Jorgito Martínez.
However, the love of his profession and the commitment to his work kept him rolling up to 14 scenes per day. In parallel, he received chemio and radiotherapy treatments.
Consequences for the actor
After undergoing such an aggressive treatment without rest, the consequences were extreme for Martínez. During the aforementioned interview he confirmed that he lost the palate and salivary glands.
Because of this, he had to maintain a liquid diet per year, which made it lose weight and get to 42 kg, about 93 pounds. By living alone in Cuba, he did not have any help, so he had to deal with his two diseases and the usual therapies, alone.

A friend, seeing the state he was in, took him to Italy, a country in which he remained for approximately one year, and where he could fully recover from his illness.
Wrapped in controversy
In 2006, Cuban television stopped transmitting the El Express program, which had the driving of Jorge Martínez.
With a musical magazine format, the television space had a large audience, to a greater extent thanks to Martínez’s histrionism. However, in the last edition that came to the air, the actor celebrated his wedding next to one of the dancers of the show, which made ICRT managers take out the air program.
Subsequently, a note was published in the main national media where ICRT considered the fact as «unacceptable» and the actor was relegated from the public stalls and the suspended program.
Among the main works of his career are names such as The Beauty of Alhambra, Alicia in the town of Maravillas and Last days in Havana. For that last film he received the award for best male performance at the International Poor Film Festival.
