The Secretary of Public Security of Mexico, Omar García Harfuch, said Monday that the ranch in Teuchitlán (Jalisco), in the west of the country, where an undetermined number of people allegedly disappeared, was «a training center» of the Jalisco Nuevo Generación (CJNG) cartel, but rejected that it was an extermination field as reported by groups of citizens.
«We as Secretariat of Security and the Research and Intelligence Areas of the Security Cabinet, there is no indication that (the property) has been an extermination field, as mentioned (the activists), but a training center,» said the official during the daily presidential press conference.
García Harfuch, who heads the president’s security cabinet, Claudia Sheinbuam, said that at the Izaguirre Rancho, where at the beginning of the month the group Guerreros Search engines denounced an alleged «field» of recruitment or extermination of the CJNG with clothing and 400 pairs of shoes of missing people, there was a track for training.
«There are a number of things and we have confirmed that this and another point, which was also insured, were places to train subjects who wanted to enlist in the criminal organization,» he settled.
Harfuch said, however, that until now the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has not confirmed that human remains have been found in the property.
For his part, Sheinbaum guaranteed that the details about the Izaguirre ranch will be announced.
«Not the truth built by someone, but the truth,» he said.
Sheinbaum recalled that, until now, it is the Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Jalisco who has the site in custody, and also the one that has been in charge of the investigation.
«All Mexicans and Mexican, mothers, fathers and relatives of missing persons, the Government of the Republic, we all have to be certain of that place, and the truth has to leave because it is not only a matter of who uses all this to manufacture truths, but the people of Mexico have to know the truth,» he warned.
The finding of the ranch has shuddered the country, which accumulates more than 120,000 missing people, according to the National Registry of Missing and not located, with data since the 1960s.
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, promised to present on Monday reforms to meet the crisis of disappearances, with an accumulated of more than 120,000 people not located, although she has already advanced that she will strengthen the National Search Commission (CNB) and create the «Single Base of Forensic Information» and a new «Federal Human Identification Platform».
