Places available for ten Cubans who want to make the way of Santiago, in Spain

If you are Cuban and you have Spanish nationality, you have the opportunity to opt for one of the ten places to make the Camino de Santiago.

The initiative is promoted by the Xunta de Galicia, with a call that includes financing to travel on this route, one of the oldest and most mystical peninsula.

Requirements to apply to the call of the Xunta de Galicia

Those interested in applying must meet a series of requirements. Among them:

• Be of Cuban nationality
• Be a descendant of Gallego origin
• Be between 18 and 21 years old
• Reside abroad
• Be registered in the Spanish resident register abroad (Pere) in a Galician City Council, at least three months
• Not having participated before in this program

How to apply to the call for the Camino de Santiago

Cubans interested in participating in this program must send their application via electronics. To do this, they must enter the website of the Xunta de Galicia, where the form is available.

The application can also be made through the Federation of Galician Societies, in Havana. Applications will only be accepted until April 21 of this year.

Pilgrimage date to the Camino de Santiago

Those who meet all the requirements must be ready to leave for the route in July. The journey is planned between the 19th and 31st of the seventh month of the year and will be done along the Portuguese road.

As you can read in the call, with this initiative the Xunta de Galicia seeks to strengthen ties with the Galician residents of other countries. For each of the pilgrimage participants, a sum of 800 euros will be allocated that allows them to cover their expenses.

What is the Camino de Santiago?

The Camino de Santiago is one of the oldest and most famous pilgrimage routes in the world. Its destination is the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, located in Galicia, Spain, where, according to tradition, the remains of the apostle Santiago el Mayor rest. French path: The most popular, part of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port (France) and crosses northern Spain.

Camino del Norte: Bordle the Cantabrian Sea coast.

Portuguese path: Start in Lisbon or Porto (Portugal).

Primitive path: Considered the oldest, begins in Oviedo.

Vía de la Plata: From Seville, it crosses western Spain.

What is its importance?

Spiritual and religious meaning: For centuries, the Camino de Santiago has been an experience of faith for those who seek a spiritual connection. The Catholic Church grants the compostela (a certificate) to those who complete at least 100 km on foot or 200 km by bicycle.

Cultural Heritage: The way is recognized as a World Heritage by UNESCO for its historical wealth, medieval architecture and natural landscapes. Throughout the route, there are churches, monasteries, castles and villages with centuries of history.
