Pope Francis receives kings Carlos and Camila on the 20th anniversary of his wedding

Pope Francis received on Wednesday at the Vatican, in a surprise visit, to the British kings Carlos III and Camilia, who are traveling in Italy, on the day they celebrate their 20 years of marriage, the Holy See reported.

The 88 -year -old pontiff and who follows his convalescence in his residence, the Santa Marta house, after spending 38 days in the hospital for serious respiratory problems, «he has gathered this afternoon in private with his Majesties Los Reyes Carlos and Camilla,» said the Vatican.

«During the encounter, the Pope expressed his good wishes to his Majesties on the occasion of his wedding anniversary and his Majesty wished a prompt recovery,» the Pope explains in a brief statement.

Carlos and Camila, who have fulfilled on Wednesday the third day of their state visit to Italy, had to suspend the meeting that had initially scheduled with the Pontiff on Tuesday, April 8 due to Francisco’s delicate state of health.

However, by surprise, they went to the Santa Marta house today to see the Pope, in the midst of strong security measures at one of the entrance doors to the Vatican, where a caravan of vehicles without identification was seen, as revealed by international media and later confirmed the Holy See.

The royal couple had previously met with Pope Francis on a visit to the Vatican on April 4, 2017, while King Carlos met the Pontiff when he was Prince of Wales, on October 13, 2019, in the Canonization of San John Henry Newman.

The monarch, who declared Tuesday that he prayed for Pope Francis, according to Italian media, will travel tomorrow with his wife to Ravena (North) on his last day in Italy, where they have been received by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, among other acts.

In his speech before the Italian wall today, Carlos III celebrated «as a special day» the twentieth anniversary of his marriage to Queen Camila: «For the queen and for it it is very important to return to Italy on our first official visit from our coronation. But the moment is even more special because today 20 years of our marriage are turned ».

The British kings, crowned in September 2022, married 20 years ago, on April 9, 2005, and the anniversary has coincided with their first official visit to Italy of their reign. EFE
